Ejisu By-election: NPP To Open Nominations On Tuesday

The leadership of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has approved details for holding a parliamentary primary in the Ejisu Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

The sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ejisu Constituency and the Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Kumah, died in the early hours of Thursday, March 7, after a short illness.

Following Mr. Kumah’s death, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, declared the seat vacant and instructed the Clerk-to-Parliament to write officially to the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a by-election in the area.

In response to the Speaker’s call, the leadership of the NPP at its National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council meetings has set Tuesday, April 2, 2024, as the date for the opening of nominations and will close it on April 4, 2024.

The party will hold the Ejisu primary on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

The Party will open nominations on Tuesday, April 2, for the upcoming Ejisu by-election in the Ashanti Region.

The NPP General Secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, signed a statement on behalf of the party announcing that the nomination process will end on Thursday, April 4, and that the election of parliamentary candidates is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, 2024.

The General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, said in a statement dated March 29, 2024, “The party has also approved detailed rules and regulations to govern the conduct of the parliamentary primary election, which would be made available to stakeholders. However, nomination forms will be available at the constituency party office for purchase.”

Additionally, it has issued a warning, saying that no one will be denied access to purchasing nomination forms.

Late John Kumah to be buried May 18

John Ampontuah Kumah, the late Deputy Finance Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, will be laid to rest on Saturday, May 18th, 2024.

The final funeral rites will take place on Sunday, May 19th, 2024.

The 45-year-old lawmaker passed away earlier this month following a brief illness, leaving behind a wife and six children.

Known as Lawyer John Kumah among his constituents, he was widely regarded as a man of integrity with a keen focus on job creation.

He was a beacon of hope for both the young and old in his community.
