As part of measures to help increase rice production in the Ejisu constituency of the Ashanti region, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area who double as deputy minister for Finance,Hon. Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah has presented about 500 bags of fertilisers , Urea and NPK to support various rice farmers in his constituency.
Under this project, the MP seeks to get more youth interested in rice cultivation through appropriate modern farming technologies, packaging and marketing techniques.
According to the deputy Finance Minister, this is part of numerous interventions drawn up to promote agriculture, increase the yields of rice farmers and to encourage the youth to engage in agriculture. Mr John Kumah revealed that, after a careful research, he realized the need to invest in the rice production sector to provide jobs and food for Ejisu constituency.
He said, “we detected, Kwaso, Assienimpong, Boankra, Donaso and Achinakrom communities as rice growing zones and saw it prudent to support the several farmers there to maximize production for local consumption and subsequently export to other parts of Ghana or probably outside the country”.
Also, some selected individuals from these communities who engage in vegetable farming benefited from this project.
The farmers were excited and expressed their gratitude to the MP since this has been the first time the association was benefiting from such support.
