Emulate Agric Ministry, Set Up Centers To Sell Spare Parts – Transport Ministry Told

The Vice Chairman of the Western Region branch of the Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union (GPRTU) Joseph Kingsley Eshun is proposing that the Ministry of Transport also sets up a centre where drivers can get spare parts to buy at cheaper prices.

According to him, the Ministry of Agriculture has shown by its example that government will be able to set up centres where Ghanaians can get items cheaper to buy in these trying economic times.

“We all do know what the Ministry of Agriculture is doing now which is setting up a centre where people can go get items to buy at a cheaper price. This is laudable. Now, we know it is very possible government can do something like that to cushion Ghanaians. We are also suffering. The transport business is facing teething problems. So, we also want to propose to the Ministry of Transport to emulate the Ministry of Agriculture. The Ministry should set up a centre for us to come and buy spare parts at cheaper prices.”

Speaking at Media General’s Takoradi-based radio station Connect FM’s People’s Parliament – an out broadcast show – Mr. Eshun was confident such intervention will give drivers respite from the ever-rising cost of doing business.

“Now everything about the business is expensive. What is even more worrying is that prices are not stable and so you cannot plan. Today the cost of an item is this, you raise money to go and buy the next day and price has changed. So we need an initiative that can bring in some stability and uniformity in price. So, the centre is the best option.”

The Vice Chairman assured that GPRTU is ready to offer the Ministry of Transport the necessary support to help the initiative work.

“Just like the Ministry of Agriculture did, we can pilot it before we scale it up. And we are ready to offer government the necessary technical support’s especially in choosing the kind of spare parts to buy.”
