The Concerned Youth of Sakora Wonoo further called on the government to appreciate the good works of the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie by finishing what he started in his hometown.

The Queen-mother of Sakora Wonoo in the Kwabre East Municipal, Nana Ama Nyarko has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo not to step foot in the township for Sir John’s burial if the abandoned projects he started are not completed to serve inhabitants.

She further confronted the NPP leadership for failing to appreciate the selfless efforts of the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie with nothing to remember him for? The queen mother advised that if their deserted road, hospital, water projects and school blocks are not finalized, residents will make sure the President and his Vice, together with party executives do not step foot for the funeral rites of the former Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission.

“So if Sir John is no more, what can the party remember his good works with? she enquired.

“He gave his all for the New Patriotic Party government and today, there is not a single monument done at Sakra Wonoo in remembrance of him. Is the government not ashamed of this?

“You (Nana Akufo Addo) promised to finish all the jobs Sir John started. All the works have been abandoned after Sir John’s one week and up till now, nothing developmental has been done?

“People of Sakora Wonoo are disheartened because Sir John’s hard work seems to have been a waste. He loved this town but what do we see? Nothing to honour him,” she added.

Nana Ama Nyarko advised the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the NPP leadership to revisit their promises made to Sakora Wonoo and the Kwabre East Municipal before the elections else they are forbidden to attend Sir John’s funeral.

“My message to the president is that he should revisit his promises. Sakora Wonoo people are telling you this day that failure to finish the projects Owusu Afriyie (Sir John) started is fine but we will bury him without your help. We don’t need anyone here, including the vice president, Alhaji Bawumia,” she ended.

The Concerned Youth of Sakora Wonoo in the Kwabre East of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday called a press conference to lament over the New Patriotic Party’s conduct towards them especially as the final funeral rite of a high ranking member of the community looms.

Youth of Sakora Wonoo were clad in red and black clothes holding banners with inscriptions, “Don’t Betray Sir John, Mr  President” “Our Hero” “Sir John Twa W’ani behwe w’akyi,” and a few other communicating disappointment towards the NPP.

The Convener, Francis Owusu summarized how developmental projects started during the final days of Sir John to the delight of the people everything has been left ajar after his one-week celebration.

“After the one-week celebration, the contractor packed his equipment and left,” he said.

“It’s been 11 months now since his departure and there is no sign of his return. With the sacrifice of Sir John for the NPP and Ghana, Sakra Wonoo has been abandoned.

“We have been deprived of infrastructural development in the Kwabre East Municipal after the great support we rallied behind the NPP in the 2020 elections. Our road is in a deplorable state and every project for the welfare of this township has been left unattended.

“Sir John had the development of Wonoo at heart. He started roads, school building, hospitals, water project but since his demise, all the projects have been abandoned.”

They have pleaded to the government to finish what was started to elevate the good works of the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie who died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, after an illness.
