The popular personality according to our own sources indicate that she is no more after suffering from a short illness. She was later rushed to the hospital at Tema and was confirmed dead this morning.

Brief Profile:

Ama Benyiwa-Doe was born in 1950.

She was the NDC’s Member of Parliament for Gomoa West Constituency from 1992 until 2004, when she was defeated by NPP’s Joe Kingsley Hackman.

She continued to work for the NDC as national Women’s Organizer. In January 2009 she was appointed by the late President Mills as the Central Regional Minister, where she served between 2009 to 2012. She later became a member of the Council of State under former president Mahama’s government.

Her voice was a regular feature on the airwaves, particularly, Peace 104.3 FM’s “Kokrokoo” hosted by Kwami Sefa Kayi and Adom 106.3 FM’s “Dwaso Nsem” which was also anchored by Adakabri Frimpong Manso in the early to mid 2000s.

She was mostly paired on Kokrokoo with co-panelists such as the indefatigable Abdul Malik Kweku Baako and host of others.

On Adom FM, it was the late Baby Ansah Ba(then of Daily Guide or so), Kenneth Kuranchie of Searchlight fame among others.

Something interesting happened in the studios of Adom FM between the late Ama and the late Baby Ansah Ba around 2004 or thereabout. That incident earned the former the nickname, “Ama Chavez”. Madam Benyiwa Doe was a tough woman.

May her soul rest in peace.
