GFA Debunks Covid-19 Outbreak In Japan Ahead Of Kirin Tournament

Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has denied media reports that some players have been infected with Covid-19.

The Black Stars are currently in Japan for the Kirin Four Nations Tournament after their AFCON 2023 qualifiers with Madagascar and the Central African Republic.

Ghana defeated Madagascar in Cape Coast before holding the Central African Republic to a 1-1 draw away.

 

Ghana has qualified for the World Cup in Qatar and is preparing for the Mundial in November and December this year.

There’ve been media reports of the Covid-19 outbreak in the camp of the Black Stars which has reduced the available players to eighteen.

Henry Asante Twum says no player has contracted the deadly Coronavirus but admits that only eighteen players are available for selection in camp.

 

“We currently have 18 players in the Black Stars camp in Japan. There is no COVID-19 case in our camp as reported in the Media,” he denied.

 

“Gideon Mensah is not with the Black Stars team because of injury. He complained about the injury after our game against CAR and the medical team decided to give him some time to rest knowing that he has also had a long season in France.

“Daniel Kofi Kyereh was getting calls from his agent even when the Black Stars team was in Cape Coast. The agent contacted the technical team and they decided to let him go to sort his transfer move out.

“Daniel Afriyie and Christopher Antwi Adjei joined the Black Stars camp on Wednesday and they both trained this morning with the team.”
