At a mini rally held at Effiakuma Police Park on Saturday, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central and a key figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, called on party members to set aside past grievances in preparation for the December 7 elections.
Agyapong stressed that forgiveness of past issues is crucial for achieving their goal of “breaking the 8.”
His comments came as the party anticipates its 2024 manifesto launch on Sunday.
“I understand the bitterness and frustration that many of you feel, but I can confidently say that I’m the most frustrated person among all. However, we’ve put our differences aside for the love of the party.
“So, I implore you to forgive your brothers and sisters, and let’s work together towards a victorious outcome in the upcoming elections.” Kennedy Agyapong appealed.
At the same event, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the party’s Vice Presidential candidate, attributed the country’s problems to the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh criticized the NDC, labeling them as a relic of the past and positioning the NPP as the party of the future. He highlighted the NPP’s role in rescuing Ghanaians from the issues left by the NDC.
“Don’t vote based on hardship alone. If the current challenges had occurred under NDC’s leadership, I assure you it would have been even more severe.
“During his presidency, without the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war, he threatened to withhold salaries from teachers and nurses. So, I ask, what would he do in today’s circumstances?”
