The Campaign Team for Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency Kwadjo Asante popularly known in the Constituency as ‘Boafo’ has dispelled claims of him stepping down as an independent candidate in the race for the Suhum seat.
Rumours of him rescinding his decision to contest the Suhum Constituency seat went viral after a picture of him and the Majority Leader went viral moments after the Speaker of Parliament indefinitely adjourned sittings indefinitely.
In an interview with Channel One News, the Spokesperson for the Kwadjo Asante Boafo campaign team Samuel Baah Gosh who denied the rumours stated emphatically that the MP will contest the Suhum seat as an independent candidate.
“Suhum MP, Hon. Kwadjo Asante is still in the race contesting as an independent candidate for the Suhum constituency come December 7, 2024.”
Other residents in the Constituency who engaged Channel One News to share their thoughts on recent happenings in parliament expressed optimism in the work of their MP.
“I heard something of that sort but, I read from the internet that he’s going independent but he has not been removed as an MP. They say the case is in court and it’s only the court that can decide and not the Speaker of Parliament [Alban Bagbin].”
Another resident said, “He’s very good, Opare Ansah was the MP for 16 good years we didn’t witness any developmental projects. He [Kwadjo Asante] was not allowed to continue the projects he embarked on during the primaries.”
“There was a rumour that he has stepped down, but I don’t believe it, I know it’s a rumour, he’s the one we will vote for, we will not change our decision to vote for him,” a resident said.
Meanwhile, some supporters of the Suhum MP who also shared their thoughts on the rumours threatened to wage a war against him including setting his house on fire should he dare rescind his decision to contest the Suhum seat as an independent candidate.
“He will not heed to any promises. If he dares us, we will burn his car, he can’t play with our hearts, we asked him to contest as an independent candidate, he’s contesting for our benefits. Because of him, we now have asphalt roads, hospitals, and markets, so if he jokes with us, we will also retaliate.”
