Nana Obeng-Danquah, popularly known as Daakye, has picked nomination forms to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Akwatia constituency of the Eastern Region, slated for Saturday, September 23 to Saturday, December 2, 2023.
A group known as the ‘Daakye Fun Club’ picked up the forms on his behalf on Wednesday morning, July 12, 2023.
This makes the aspirant (Nana Obeng-Danquah) the first person to receive the nomination form in the Akwatia constituency.
According to the group, Nana Obeng-Danquah deserves to be given the nod to lead the NPP to help the party snatch the Akwatia parliamentary seat from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general elections.
Receiving the form on behalf of the aspirant, the leader of the group, Mr. Kofi Damptey, stated that Mr. Obeng-Danquah remains a unifier who can recapture the Akwatia seat for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“Akwatia NPP is sharply divided between two factions, and we need Daakye to unify the party,” he told the Daily Searchlight Eastern Regional Correspondent.
Mr. Kofi Damptey noted that it is time for the delegates of the party in Akwatia constituency to give “Daakye” a chance, adding that the grassroot man knows the political terrain in the constituency.
“Daakye is humble, trustworthy, and a team player that Akwatia NPP needs to recapture the MP seat, and we should all back him as far as the forthcoming primaries are concerned.
Nana Obeng-Danquah is a former elected Assembly member and also a former communication officer for Akwatia NPP.
On July 11, 2023, the New Patriotic Party opened nominations for persons seeking to contest for the Parliamentary Candidate positions in the 2024 elections to officially enter the race.
