Nana Obiri Boahen Weeps For Africa

Private legal practitioner Nana Obiri Boahen almost moved his audience to tears in a live interview as he reflected on the hardships that Africans, particularly the youth, often endure to make ends meet on the continent.

Expressing his views, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen highlighted the multitude of challenges confronting Africa that demand urgent attention. However, he criticized the indifference of the continent’s leaders, who seem preoccupied with trivial matters.

“The African continent grapples with governance issues like corruption, authoritarianism, and lack of accountability, yet our institutions neglect these pressing concerns in favor of less significant ones,” he told Kwame Nkrumah Tikese.

Quoting the words of the late English philosopher Thomas Hobbes, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen emphasized the harsh reality of life in Africa, describing it as “short, nasty, and brutish.”

The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Deputy General Secretary also shared his admiration for Africans who have successfully obtained residency documents abroad, applauding their perseverance.

He disclosed a startling statistic, noting that out of the ten longest-serving world leaders, only three are non-African.

Expressing dismay, Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen pointed out that according to UN data, 33 countries, 21 of which are in Africa, are classified as the world’s poorest.
