Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has raised significant concerns regarding the abandonment of projects that remained unfinished at the end of his administration.
He criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for not pursuing vital road initiatives, particularly those along the Accra-Kumasi Highway and Affordable Housing Project in Asokore Mampong, which he had initiated but could not finalize.
In a discussion with a select group of journalists in Accra on November 17, the former President lamented the impact of the party’s defeat in the 2008 elections, asserting that it led to the neglect of various projects they had started.
“Change of government in 2008 really affected us due to lack of continuity, because we had plans of continuing projects. But they were stalled. Our brothers in the NDC which took over power had a different ideology from ours.
“So they abandoned most of our projects. Asokore Mampong, the Affordable Housing projects we started were all abandoned. Accra to Kumasi road some of the projects we couldn’t complete were abandoned. What kind of rivalry is this?
He stressed the importance of maintaining project continuity regardless of the government in power contending that the funds allocated to these initiatives belong to the state and should not be squandered.
“They said they would not touch the road projects I couldn’t complete while leaving office. If you will not continue, is it your money? It’s the state money, why won’t you touch the projects.”
