NPP Holds Constituency Delegates’ Conference Today

Spread the love

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will from today to August 27 this year, organise delegates conferences in each of the 275 constituencies across the country.

The constituency delegates conference is in line with Article 7(27) of the NPP’s constitution and is a prelude to the party’s national delegates conference.

No elections

Throwing more light on the conferences, the Director of Elections, Mr Evans Nimako explained that there would be no conduct of elections as many people were expecting or assuming.

He said at the conference, the constituency executive would be expected to adopt the constituency treasurer and secretary reports.

He said the conference would also discuss welfare issues that would help transform the fortunes of the party in each constituency.

Mr Nimako said a communique would be issued to the regional executive committees for consideration and adoption.

“We wish all the delegates the best and hope they come out with initiatives to support the government and the party so that together, we break the eight-year cycle,” Mr Nimako stated.

Statement

In an earlier statement issued by the General Secretary of the NPP, Mr John Boadu, the party said the delegates conferences would be held in strict compliance of COVID-19 protocols.

“Delegates /attendees to each constituency conference shall not exceed 250 people. In other words, the conferences shall be held in groups of 250 on the average, at the same or different venues within the constituency depending on the constituency’s peculiarities,” the statement said.

Other measures

The statement further explained that the conferences shall be held in open and airy environment, where there shall be strict adherence to social distancing, “delegates must wear face mask at all times and regular hand washing and hand sanitising is a must.

It said the durations of the conferences shall not exceed two hours in line with the directives outlined by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“The party is assuring its members and the general public that it is taking all the necessary steps to ensure strict adherence to these guidelines in the conduct of constituency conferences across the country,” the statement said.
