Rent Cost In Ghana Skyrockets; YTAG Calls For Urgent Rant Reform

Spread the love

The executives of the Young Tenants Association of Ghana (YTAG) are indeed upset about the high cost of rent in the country.

The lack of proper regulation is also a concern for the association, considering that in some non-prime areas, a chamber and hall self-contained accommodation facility goes for as high as Ghc800.

Tenants are calling for the enforcement of the Rent Act, which is expected to compel landlords to charge a maximum rent advance of six months.

According to them, currently, most landlords demand two to three years’ advance payment depending on the area before renting out their properties.

They are therefore calling on the Rent Control Department, and the Landlord and Landlady Association of Ghana to reduce rent price and advance payment to a more manageable six(6) months to 1 year.
