Confusion has rocked the New Patriotic Party in the Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region as over 1000 party members belonging to Asanteman Nkosuo NPP Mpuntuo pressure group match to the street over the disqualification of an aspiring Party Chairman, Owusu Sekyere.
This pressure group which main aim is to seek the wellbeing of the grass-root members of the New Patriotic Party today, 24th April, 2022 heed on the streets of Manhyia North Constituency to showcase their displeasure to their party leadership in the constituency.
The aspirant had gone through the vetting process after filing his nomination forms, but they were shocked he is allegedly disqualified by the vetting committee.
Meanwhile, other aspirants filed their nomination forms on the same day and vetted the same day as Owusu Sekyere.
According to the secretary of this group who also briefed the media, Hajia Laila Issah Ababio, the aspirant is their only hope who can help increase the votes of both the Parliamentary and Presidential candidates in the upcoming 2024 general elections that will aid them to break the 8.
She also asserted that the NPP will continue to suffer in Manhyia South Constituency if the party executives refuse to accept the aspiring Chairman.
Hajia Laila again accused the member of parliament in the area who is also the Energy Minister Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh of being behind the alleged disqualification.
She again threatened that she and her group will boycott any elections and campaigns in the Manhyia South if the aspirant Chairman is disqualified.
One member of the executive member of the group, Mr. Mark Obeng also warned the leaders especially the NPP National Secretary, Mr. John Boadu and Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to stay away from any issue in the Manhyia South Constituency.
He said Manhyia South deserves better hence a fair playing ground must be given to all aspirants to contest, adding that they will stop doing the party’s work and boycott 2024 election if the aspiring Chairman is not allowed to contest.
Information gathered indicates that the aspirant was disqualified based on an alleged that, he is a civil servant.
