Vision Of AFRC Far Better Than Akufo-Addo Vision – Adaklu MP

Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Kwame Agbodza has said that he will continue to defend the June uprising on any day.

In his view, the vision of the defunct Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) was better than the vision of the current Akufo-Addo administration.

The AFRC was the government of Ghana from June 4, 1979, to September 24, 1979.

It came to power in a coup that removed the Supreme Military Council, another military regime, from power. The June 4 coup was preceded by an abortive attempt on May 15, 1979, when Flt. Lt. Jerry Rawlings and other ranks were arrested.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) which was founded by the late Former President J.J Rawlings, celebrated the anniversary last Saturday, June 4, 2022.

Contributing to a discussion on the celebration on TV3’s New Day show on Monday June 6, Mr Agbodza believed that happenings relating to elections in Ghana at the moment are worst than during the military era.

He defended the June 4 uprising and said “the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council vision was far better than Akufo-Addo Addo’s vision.”

Reacting to him, the Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer however, noted that despite some of the challenges that are associated with Ghana’s electoral system, elections are getting better in the country.

He explained that occasionally, the country would experience some overzealous persons reacting to electoral issues in a manner that is unacceptable.

However, generally, the country has experienced growth in its sections, he said.

said “as a country we are getting better with our election.”

He further explained that occasionally “you get people who are over zealous in responding to situations…those people ought to account.

He called in person not to underestimate the level of electoral growth witnessed in the country cannot be swept under the carpet.
