The Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) led by it’s national executives today presented a cash amount of five thousand Ghana cedis Ghc5,000 to Mr. Idrissu Abdul-Hanan a student of the University of Education, Winneba.

In a press conference held at the ICT Auditorium of the Tamale Technical University, the TUTAG President, Dr. Michael Akurugu Brigandi the association was touched by the plight of Abdul-Hanan and his efforts to acquire educational fortunes for himself thus paying the fees for all the three years that he will be in school.

He added that “TUTAG as a teacher Union is not only concerned about its own welfare but also that of its students and the vulnerable in society.”

Mr. Abdul-Hanan expressed his utmost joy over the donation by TUTAG and showered praises to the union for saving his education which was at the verge of ending prematurely.

However, TUTAG used the opportunity to call on government and the relevant stakeholders to as a matter of urgency address some outstanding challenges of the union including the migration of the staff of Bolgatanga and Wa Technical Universities onto the Ghana University salary structure, unpaid research allowances, “unfair” promotion criteria.

Meanwhile, the association congratulated Prof Mohammed Salifu on his new position as the Director General of the newly constituted Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and thanked the outgoing Minister for education Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh for the good working relationship offered them during his days in office.
