Member of the Ghana Football Association Statutes Review Committee, Oluboi Commodore has justified their latest proposal to extend the tenure of the organization’s presidency from two to three terms of four years each.

The new development seeks to annul the fixed two terms set by the GFA Normalization Committee in 2019.

The limited tenure for the GFA Presidency was introduced after Ex-leader, Kwesi Nyantakyi, served an unlimited term of office for 13 years.

The current GFA president, Kurt Okraku is in the final year of his first term.

“Yes, we have proposed to GFA to extend the limit or seal of the tenure of the GFA Presidency from two to three terms”. Commodore told Akoma FM.

“This is not new, various statutes by CAF and FIFA make room for the extension of tenure to three terms which is why we have proposed the increment.

It is not anything dramatic since members will have the opportunity to vote for the FA President if they believe in him based on his output.

When congress affirms this proposal, then it will come to stay. Though other proposals are mandatory and some are not.”

The GFA Executive Council will take further action on the proposal and forward it to FIFA as required.

The final stage for amendments will be at Congress where members of the association will either approve or reject the motion.

The five-member Statutes Review Committee was named eight months ago to make recommendations for possible amendments of the present GFA Statutes.

Executive Council Member, Randy Abbey heads the committee with Naa Odofoley Nortey as the Vice Chairperson.
