Article: Some Contributions Of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia To NPP; The Obvious Choice To Lead

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been a priceless asset to the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) since his emergence as a senior economist and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana. Undoubtedly, he has made significant contributions to NPP and some of them include:

1. He served as Co-Chair of the Economic Policy coordinating committee under Former President Kufour.

2. He was a key member of the Government’s Technical Negotiation Team that successfully negotiated $4 billion relief for Ghana in 2001 under the Highly Indebted Poor Countries(HIPC) initiative.

3. He served as Chairman of the capital markets committee where he played a crucial role in making Ghana the first post HIPC Country to access the International capital markets.

4. He was a key member of the team that implemented the redenomination of the Cedi, Ezwich, and Bank of Ghana inflation targeting framework.

5. He was selected as the Party’s running mate to Nana Addo after having a secured job as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana. He was selected again in 2012.

6. He was the star witness for the party where he performed credibly well at the Supreme Court hearing and led the team that analyzed over 24,000 pink sheets. He exposed major loopholes in the electoral system. Amongst the reforms were the continued voter registration exercise, the establishment of a National collation center, and the use of biometric verification devices.

7. Key member of the Party’s manifesto committees in 2012, and 2016 and chaired the 2020 committee.

8. As Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia contributed both materially and financially to the Party’s activities from polling station to national levels.

9. He supports the Party’s candidates materially and pays for ID cards for delegates.

10. He redefined Ghana’s political landscape through the various broadcast lectures he organized before the 2016 elections by exposing the NDC’s Government propaganda. This led to the Party’s unprecedented victory of over one million votes in the 2016 general elections.

11. He contributed significantly to the Party’s Electoral fortunes in the North through an increase in both Presidential votes and Parliamentary seats.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s contributions to the Party have been phenomenal and he remains a significant threat to the NDC both in opposition and in government.
