It’s Not The Job Of An MP To Build Roads – Majority Leader says

The Member of Parliament for Suame and the majority leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has indicated that he never promised his constituents during campaign that he would construct roads and also embark on other development projects.

He explained that it is not the function of a lawmaker to provide development projects in the constituency.

At best, he said, an MP can only facilitate that development by lobbying but not to provide them directly.

Asked why lawmakers keep promising their constituencies to build roads when they know that is not the duty of a legislator, while speaking on the New Day show with Berla Mundi on TV3 Wednesday August 10, the Majority Leader in Parliament blamed others for doing that and not him.

“I have never done that,” he told Berla.

The Minister  for Parliamentary Affairs added that “It is because of the general approach especially with those of them who want to succeed in becoming Members of Parliament, they will go and tell people that ‘have you seen your MP, he has been there for two terms, he has not been able to facilitate any development project and so vote me in and I will do this, I will do that.’ It is not your job.”

Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu was hooted at and pelted with sachet water by some artisans over failed promises to reconstruct the roads in his constituency.

The residents had earlier warned that they were going to demonstrate against the government and the lawmaker over poor roads.
