Parliament Chaos: Sir John Urges MPs To Set A Good Example For The Youth; Condemns The Current Partisan Extremities In The House

The New Patriotic Party’s First Vice Chairman for Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, Hon. John Kwame Duodu, also known as Sir John has strongly condemned the chaotic scenes that unfolded between Majority and Minority members of the Appointment Committee during the vetting of ministerial nominees on Thursday, January 30, 2025.

The Ashanti Regional TESCON Patron who has been vocal on the promotion of Ghana’s democracy, peaceful coexistence, and cooperation amongst the citizenry expressed his deep disappointment and disillusionment at the level of discord displayed by the lawmakers.

‘Such actions set a bad example for the youth and future leaders of the nation, who look up to their elected legislative representatives as role models”, he emphasized.

According to Sir John, the behavior of MPs has a direct impact on the youth and therefore he urged the honorable members to be more mindful of their actions and give meaning to their ‘Honourable’ titles.

 

He also blamed the Chairman of the Appointment Committee of Parliament for the confusion that ensued, stating that the Chairman’s magnanimity led to chaos in the house.

Sir John criticized the majority members of the Appointment Committee for what he described as a ‘deliberate plan to intimidate the minority members of the Committee’.

He acknowledged Speaker Bagbin’s justified anger over the incident but stressed the need to settle the matter without any partisan biases.

Sir John called for a proper investigation into the incident and added that the suspension of three members of the minority and only one member of the majority was not fair.

‘We all watched it and clearly saw that the MPs on the majority side who were involved in that distasteful act were mamy so why was only the Majority Chief Whip included in the suspension on the Majority side?’, Sir John quizzed.

“The actions of our lawmakers should reflect the values of our great nation. We must promote a culture of respect, tolerance, and cooperation in our politics. The youth of our country are watching, and we must set a good example for them”, he added.

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Duodu further emphasized that the country needs its lawmakers to work together to find solutions to the challenges the citizens are confronted with rather than engaging in partisan bickering.

“We need to put the interests of our nation above our individual and partisan interests,” Sir John said.

“We need to work together to build a better future for our country. The chaos we saw in Parliament is not what we need. We need peace and stability in the country as well as maximum cooperation at all levels of government”, Sir John concluded.
