President John Dramani Mahama’s official X account (@JDMahama) has been hacked.
This comes after the account was used to promote a cryptocurrency scam linked to Solanafrica, sparking mixed reactions.
The fraudulent post claimed the project was “led by Ghana’s President John Mahama to make payments across Africa free using the Solana blockchain.”
The token has since been rug-pulled, leaving investors with losses.
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has also confirmed that it is working closely with X (formerly Twitter) and other relevant stakeholders to investigate and resolve the recent hacking of President John Dramani Mahama’s official account.
In a statement released on March 18, 2025, the CSA revealed that the breach occurred in the early hours of March 17, with hackers gaining unauthorised access to the President’s account and using it to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme known as “Solana Africa.”
The scam falsely claimed to be an initiative led by President Mahama to facilitate free cross-border payments across Africa using the Solana blockchain. However, the project collapsed shortly after its promotion in what appears to be a “rug pull” scam, leaving unsuspecting investors with financial losses.
The CSA has assured the public that it is actively collaborating with X and cybersecurity experts to recover the account and strengthen security measures to prevent future breaches.
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the breach during an interview on GHOne TV on March 17, 2025.
“There has been a hack. Some unscrupulous individuals have compromised the account, but efforts are underway to recover it, and it should be restored soon,” he stated.
Although the suspicious posts have since been deleted, the compromised account continues to generate cryptocurrency-related content, raising concerns over further misuse.
The CSA has urged the public to disregard any unauthorised posts from the handle until full control is regained.
