Akyem Bontodiase Youth Bare Teeth At Chief, Elders Over Lack Of Development

The concerned youth of Akyem Bontodiase in Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region have labeled Oberempong Adarkwa Dwamena II, the supposed chief of Obrempong, as a thief and con artist.

The disclosure was made by the concerned youth at a press conference on Friday, December 15, 2023.

As to their affirmation, Oberempong Nana Adarkwa Dwamena II ought not to be addressed as the chief any longer.

Allegations of Misuse of Community Funds

Additionally, they charged that the chief had mismanaged the community’s water fund and funeral committee fund.

They further mentioned that the chief has been selling the land belonging to the Bontodiase community without providing an accounting to his people.

“On June 6, 2021, we confronted the chief and his elders regarding the sale of the communal lands, and they informed us that he had no accounts with anyone,” they said.

They emphasized how self-centered Oberempong Nana Adarkwa Dwamena II is and how he does not care about the advancement of his community.

Speaking to Mr. Samuel Ayei Donkor, the Chairman of the Concerned Youth of Akyem Bontodiase, he said that they had sent him several letters cautioning him about his immoral activities within the community, but they fell on deaf ears.

Agenda 111 Projects Allegations

Mr. Samuel Ayei Donkor charged that the chief was impeding the contractor’s ability to finish the ongoing Agenda 111 project at Akyem Ofoase.

According to him, in order to secure land for the project, the District Chief Executive (DCE) conferred with the Chiefs of Bontodiase and Ofoase when the government intended to construct the Agenda 111 hospital in Akyemansa District.

He added that the chiefs and their queen mothers, as well as the elders, praised the idea and signed an indenture made by Hon. Paul Asamoah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akyemansa, promising to provide land for the construction of the Agenda 111 hospital project as a gesture for evidence.

He further revealed that the Assembly paid acceptance fees of GHC5,000 and a bottle of schnapps.

When the project’s contractor arrived at the location to start work, the Akyem Bontodiasehene assembled a gang to stop him from working on the land, even though the Chiefs and the District Assembly had signed an agreement regarding it, Mr. Samuel said.

This doesn’t seem good to them, according to the chairman of the concerned youth; therefore, together with the concerned youth of Ofoase, they voiced their anxieties toward Akyem Bontodiasehene and his elders over their decision to halt the contractor.

The Chief summoned the leaders of the concerned youth, Samuel Ayei Donkor, the Chairman, Kwadwo Kwakye, the Secretary, and Kwabena Nkrumah, the Organizer before the Akim Oda High Court based on the actions taken by the concerned youth to guarantee the land is secured for the project to continue.

Mr. Samuel claims that the chief’s unfounded argument for wanting to halt hospital construction is that it will ruin his cocoa farm, and he has fled the scene of his own case because it does not carry any merit.

He contends that Obrempong Adarkwa Dwamena II lacks credibility and has committed numerous atrocities and acts of disgrace to the community.

Samuel Agyei Donkor said that over the past seventeen (17) years of enstoolment, Obrempong Adakwah Gyamenah II and his leader, have not contributed to the community’s growth and is solely focused on selling land to the Akyem Bontodiase people without giving them a proper accounting.

Destoolment

Mr. Samuel Ayei Donkor noted that Oberempong Adarkwa Dwamena II has been destooled by his own family, and for that matter, he ought not to be addressed as the chief any longer.

“The community was notified during the Akwasidae Festival by approximately 90% of Oberempong Adarkwa Dwamena II’s family that they have destooled him as the chief of Bontodiase, and we, the concerned youth, fully accept their decision”.
