The New Patriotic Party UK Branch (NPP UK) has issued an open letter to President John Dramani Mahama, demanding the immediate resignation of the Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
The call comes after Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus), a Member of Parliament, accused the Attorney General, Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, of being a thief and challenged him to respond.
The NPP UK asserts that the accusation against the Attorney General is a national embarrassment and that the administration’s silence on the matter is disappointing and dangerous. The party emphasizes that the Attorney General’s office is crucial to upholding justice and accountability in Ghana.
The NPP UK argues that the Attorney General’s presence in the government undermines the credibility of the office and stains the President’s legacy. The party demands that the President publicly address the matter and ask the Attorney General to resign immediately to preserve the administration’s credibility.

Mr President, Your Attorney General Has Brought Disgrace Upon Your Administration – He Must Resign Immediately
Dear President Mahama,
With utmost concern for the dignity of the Republic of Ghana and the future of our democratic institutions, we, the New Patriotic Party UK Branch (NPP UK), write to you regarding the disgraceful conduct and serious allegations surrounding your Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
As you are well aware, Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus), a sitting Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has accused your Attorney General, who is also a Member of Parliament and formerly led Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) of being a thief and has challenged him publicly, stating that even more damning revelations will follow if he dares respond.
This is not mere political drama. This is the first time in the history of Ghana’s Fourth Republic that such a grave accusation has been made against a sitting Attorney General. The fact that your administration has remained silent in the face of this national embarrassment is not just disappointing, it is dangerous.
Mr. President, the Attorney General is not a party foot soldier. He is the chief legal advisor to the government and the custodian of justice and accountability in the Republic. The credibility of that office cannot coexist with the stench of unresolved corruption allegations.
Let us be blunt:
– Your Attorney General is unfit to continue in office.
– His presence in your government is a stain on your legacy.
– In any serious democracies including here in the United Kingdom, he would have been forced to resign or step aside pending investigation.
– How can Ghana have a thief as an Attorney Genetal in charge of Justice?
Yet, in Ghana today, your government seems content to shield him with silence, hoping that the controversy will pass. It will not. Ghanaians are watching, and they deserve better.
We demand that you publicly address this matter without delay, and that the Attorney General be asked to resign immediately to preserve what remains of the credibility of your administration.
Silence in the face of corruption is complicity.
……Signed……
