The Ashanti regional communications team member for the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) , Francis Addo said the NDC government will prosecute and jail the Roads Minister, Kwasi Amoako Attah if elected in 2024.
Speaking on “Me Man nti” on Akoma FM with Sir John, he said the roads minister has caused financial loss to the state on his decision to abolish the collection of roads toll before the approval of the 2022 budget.
The Minister of finance in presenting the 2022 budget announced the government’s intention to abolish the collection of road tolls after the approval of the budget. The Roads and Highways Minister, Akwasi Amoako Attah immediately directed in a statement the cessation of collection of road and bridge tolls contrary to the finance minister’s announcement on the floor of Parliament.
“Recently, the roads minister has revealed that processes are underway to convert abandoned tollbooths into washrooms in various parts of the country which is unacceptable.”
According to the Minister, the move is to ensure the cessation of the practice whereby commuters and drivers ease themselves by the roadside.
Meanwhile, Francis Addo said, the initiative by the Minister is baseless and must not be accepted in this country.
“NPP government has brought hardship to the people in Ghana and we the NDC will not sit aloof and watch corrupt officials like Kwasi Amoako Atta walk free in this country. We will rather prosecute and jail him for causing financial loss to the state. Ghana could have benefited from the revenue between the time he directed the cessation and now that the government is trying to find feet with the approval of E-levy, I will push for his prosecution if we come to power in 2025.” He emphasized
