Political Parties Charged To Prioritize Zongo Education In Manifestos

Muslim chiefs in the country have charged all political parties in the country to make special provisions for education in Zongos in their manifestos to promote quality education in Zongo communities.

The Chiefs emphasized that going into the 2024 general elections, it would be prudent for political parties to enact scholarship policies through the Zongo Development Fund secretariat for students in Zongo communities to help develop the human resources available to be well-equipped with skills and knowledge to fight against poverty.

The national vice president for the Council of Zongo Chiefs, Sariki Alhaji Abubakar Umar, who made the call, said that even though infrastructural development is important and needed in the Zongo community, a huge investment in education would go a long way toward reducing poverty among Zongo residents.

According to the Chief, who doubles as president for Akyem Abuakwa and the Eastern Regional Council of Zongo Chiefs, the education level in Zongo communities is very low due to the inability of many guides to sponsor their children’s education. Therefore, political parties want to make scholarships available for brilliant but needy students in Zongos.

Sariki Alhaji Abubakar made the plea today in a sideline interview with journalists at the Council of Zongo Chief’s 1st ordinary meeting for the year at Kyebi in Abuakwa South municipality of the Eastern region.

They discussed the Muslim Council, welfare, and challenges confronting Muslims and people living in Zongos, and finally suggested solutions to help address the phenomenon.

However, the Akyem Abuakwa Council of Zongo Chiefs has launched an education fund project that will provide scholarships to support brilliant but needy students in Zongo areas in Abuakwa enclaves.

The Educational Fund would also be used to establish social amenities for Islamic schools and provide business support to both Muslim and Christian entrepreneurs.
