The CEO of the Porcupine Warriors has revealed the club would rather invest to build a strong squad and develop infrastructural development
Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko are unlikely to participate in next season’s CAF interclub competition after Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah suggested the club would rather invest in building a strong squad for next season and develop their Adako Jachie complex.
The Ghana FA issued a statement on Friday evening in which the Ghanaian football governing body said either Kotoko or MTN FA Cup semi-finalist Medeama are eligible to participate in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
Kotoko have represented Ghana in both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup but have managed to reach the group stages of the Confederation Cup once – during the spell of Ghana coach Charles Akonnor at the club in 2018/19 season.
CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah has revealed the club spent bulk of its revenue in CAF interclub competition participation in recent seasons and has suggested the club will rather invest in building a strong squad and develop facilities at the club’s Adako Jachie training complex.
“The cost of going to Africa is not easy and if am to tell you the cost involved in going to Africa last year can provide us with an Astro turf at Adako Jachie and double of what we are doing now and many more,” he told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM last week.
Medeama SC, who initially said they would not participate in Africa next season, have reportedly made a U-turn on their earlier decision.
