MATCH REPORT: Ghana’s World Cup Qualification Chances Thrown In Doubt After Being Held By Ethiopia In Johannesburg

The Walia Ibexes of Ethiopia held the Black Stars of Ghana to a 1-1 stalemate at the Orlando Stadium in match-day five of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Coach Milovan Rajevac hands Joseph Aidoo his first start for sometime now and started Richmond Boakye Yiadom upfront who has been out of the team for sometime now.

Ghana with the early opportunity of the game after Kudus Mohammed sent in a cross from the left but goalkeeper Teklemariam Shanko pulled a crucial double saves to deny both Andre Ayew and Richmond Boakye Yiadom from scoring.
Ethiopia also replied quickly after Abubeker Nassir had cut in from the flanks but his effort went wide for a goalkick.
Ghana finally broke the deadlock of the game on the 21st minute after skipper Andre Ayew scored spectacularly from a direct free kick to put his country in front.
The Black Stars drove forward again in a quest to double their lead after Kamaldeen Sulemana dazzled his way through the box but his shot was off target.
Ethiopia will come close again for the second time after Dukele Dawa Hotessa sent in a powerful hit from outside but his shot was denied by the Ghanaian goalie
Dukele Hotessa again with another opportunity after controlling a pass in the box, chipped in beautifully but shot straight at Jojo Wollacott.
It has been the Ethiopians all over doing all they could to get their equaliser, after Hotessa set up Shimeles Bekele but his short was saved by the goalkepper. It finished 1-0 at half time.
In the second half, the Walia Ibexes came really strong attacking from all angles but the resolute Ghanaian defence always quick to tidy up.
On the 57th minute, Shimeles Bekele again tried going for glory but his effort went off the upright. Nearly!
Daniel Amartey almost committed a howler after his back pass nearly resulted in an own goal after misplacing Jojo Wollacott but he quickly reacted to get onto the ball to stop the threat.
The Black Stars have been off and just chasing shadows in the second half, watching their opponents do much of the possession.
Ethiopia at long last got themselves back on level terms. Abubeker Nassir pounced on Joseph Aidoo’s mistake to set up captain Getaneh Kebede who placed into the roof of the post.
Substitute Abdul Fatawu Issahaku takes three defenders on and was brought down for a free kick. He steps up but his effort missed the post by inches.
Ghana awarded another free kick on the 85th minute. Daniel Kofi Kyereh launched in a long one which met the head of Caleb Ekuban but only resulted in a side net.
Kudus Mohammed fouled for a free kick at the death of the game. Kudus Mohammed delivery took a deflection to a corner kick and that was the last action of the game.
