Retired Ghanaian FIFA Referee Richard Atifu Dies In Car Accident

Retired FIFA referee Richard Atifu has passed away following a car accident last Saturday.

Despite being immediately rushed to Ridge Hospital in Accra, he did not survive.

Atifu was a distinguished figure in football refereeing, having presided over numerous high-profile matches both domestically and internationally.

He was considered one of Africa’s most experienced referees at the time of his retirement, having overseen games in various competitions such as the African Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Apart from his career in refereeing, Atifu was a FIFA instructor, helping to mentor and train young referees to achieve success in their own careers.

He was renowned for his professionalism, commitment, and love for the sport, and his contributions to the football community will always be remembered.

 

Meanwhile, Ghana Football Association (GFA) has requested for a minute’s silence in honour of the departed Referee TRK Atiffu ahead of all weekend matches. The late Attiffu was the National Technical Instructor of the GFA and RAG before his sudden demise on Friday, April 14, 2023.
